Janice Dean

Janice Dean is Deputy General Counsel at the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), where she advises clean energy programs and the State’s nuclear program. She is counsel to the West Valley Nuclear Service Center, the site of the nation’s only privately-operated spent fuel reprocessing facility, as it undergoes decommissioning. In that role, she guides legal compliance at the site with federal and state environmental laws, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Part 50 operating license, and state licensing and permitting requirements.
Janice has presented and written on issues including climate change, environmental issues in bankruptcy, and the State as a citizen actor. Janice has been recognized by the American Bar Association as a Distinguished Environmental Advocate, by two New York attorneys general for her contributions to environmental law in New York State, and most recently she received the 2019 Robinson Award for Distinguished Environmental Achievement from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University
